Calling Brownies, Guides and Rangers! Are you ready for an adventure?
Join us for a fantastic Sailing Day at Durleigh Sailing Centre in Bridgwater on Sunday 7 July 2024 from 10am till 4pm.
The cost is £10 per Brownie, Guide and Ranger.
Set sail on Somerspirit!
This is your chance to experience the thrill of sailing aboard Somerspirit, Somerset Girlguiding’s very own sailing dinghy. In the morning, you’ll also have the opportunity to sail with instructors on other boats, learning the ropes and getting a feel for the water.
Afternoon adventure
By the afternoon, you’ll be ready to take the helm (under supervision, of course!) and sail independently in pairs with our Laser Pico boats.
Don’t worry about packing lunch – we’ve got you covered!
A lunch of either a burger or sausage in a bun will be included, along with cold drinks available throughout the day. Just remember to bring your own water bottle to stay hydrated.
What to bring:
To ensure you have a safe and enjoyable day, please come prepared with the following:
- Lightweight top and trousers (not denim)
- Lightweight jumper
- Windproof jacket
- Towel
- Trainers you don’t mind getting wet (or sailing shoes)
- Hair band or hair tie (for long hair)
- Sun block and hat
- A complete change of clothes and shoes, just in case
- Water bottle
Important information for leaders
Leaders accompanying girls will attend for free, but may be asked to contribute to the lunch cost if there is a large number accompanying a unit.
Here’s what you, as leaders, need to take care of.
Leaders should bring:
- Some fun activities to keep your girls entertained when they’re not sailing.
- Snacks for the morning and cakes for the afternoon.
- A gazebo
- A chair for yourself.
- A change of clothes, towel etc if you wish to sail.
There are a few picnic benches, tables and chairs available, along with a small grassed area for games.
Remember to arrange consent forms and a home contact. (Here’s a consent form you can download, copy and edit if required).
Parking and facilities
Parking is limited, so please lift share whenever possible. Park in the lower car park and walk up to the clubhouse.

Booking and important dates
Places are limited, so book early to avoid disappointment. Book your places as soon as you can, and confirm lunch choices (including any special dietary requirements) by Monday 17 June.
