The Learning & Development team have put together a fantastic programme of training modules for leaders in this year’s online training sessions.
As well as a programme overview and showing how it works in practice, the team will deliver hints and tips for meetings online and socially distanced guiding, tailored for each section. They’ll also provide guidance and support on risk assessment and unit accounts.
Leaders can register on as many or as few modules as they’d like.

Programme Overview
This session will give an overview of the core Girlguiding programme for new leaders and anyone involved in running unit activities
This session will cover topics (at a summary level) including
- Unit meeting activities
- Skills builders
- Interest badges
- Programme awards
- Anniversary badges
- Handbooks and badgebooks
- Recording girls’ progress

This session will provide specific guidance and support to help Rainbow leaders run effective unit meetings in an online environment

Socially distanced guiding for Guides and Rangers
This air and share session will enable participants to share hints, tips and ideas, as well as ask questions and seek advice and support
An opportunity for an informal chat about socially distanced guiding for Guides and Rangers – indoors and outside. Share with other leaders what has worked, and what hasn’t – and chat through issues and challenges in a safe and supportive environment.

How to create a balanced and varied, girl-led unit programme enabling all girls in the unit to fulfil their potential
This session will explore why a unit programme plan is necessary, and help you put together an effective plan ensuring that the girls are fully involved in the activity choices; and that the five essentials are considered.

Risky business for unit leaders
This session will provide specific guidance and support to help unit leaders assess and manage risk, and how to complete risk assessments
Topics covered will include:
- What is a hazard and what is a risk?
- Risk assessment – what might happen
- How to identify and reduce the risk of harm before an activity takes place
- How to dynamically identify and reduce the risk of harm during an activity
This modules explores realistic scenarios throughout to help leaders put the learning into context.

The programme in practice
How do we adjust the Girlguiding programme delivery to meet our unique unit circumstances?
This session will explore what makes a unit unique and how we might need to adjust elements of the programme delivery to help girls fulfil their potential, by using a number of examples of challenges faced by different units.

Introduction to managing unit accounts
This session is for anyone responsible for looking after the unit accounts
The session will specifically look at the Girlguiding accounts pack, but the principles and skills are transferable to all methodologies of recording accounts.
Topics covered will include budgeting, maintaining good records and the requirements set out by Girlguiding for managing unit accounts.
