Girlguiding Somerset county camp 2024

Come and join us at the Somerset county camp that is taking place from 20 – 22 September 2024 (21 – 22 September for Rainbows) at Mendip Activity Centre (BS25 5PQ)

This camp is open to all Girlguiding Somerset members and will include a mix of activities – some adventurous and some more gentle!

Leaders will not need a Going Away With licence to attend, but you will need to ensure that your group maintains the correct adult:child ratios (please discuss with your commissioner if you are worried that you don’t have sufficient adults to do this as it may be possible for units to link up together).

Brownies, Guides and Rangers will be invited to arrive from 3:30pm on Friday (dinner will be from 6pm) and departure will be from 3pm on Sunday (after a packed lunch).

Rainbows will be invited to arrive from 10am on Saturday and will depart at 10am on Sunday (after a cooked breakfast)

Accommodation options

There are 320 spaces available in pre-erected Basecamp tents (or in the Lodge) on the site or units can bring their own tents and camp alongside the Basecamps. As departure isn’t until 3pm onwards, your own tents can stay up later to dry off if needed (no need to rush to pack up 1st thing).

Spaces in Basecamp tents will be prioritised for young members over adults, but leaders are very welcome to bring smaller tents and pitch alongside your girls tents if you like (see notes below).

Costs

The costs below include all camp fees, food and activities – but exclude transport costs. Girlguiding Somerset have agreed to pay for one 2-hour instructed activity per girl from county funds; and the Somermead Grant will pay £5 per member per night. These discounts have already been applied to the following prices (so units will not be able to claim for an additional Somermead grant).

Book your places by 31 May 2024

Spaces in the pre-erected basecamp tents will be allocated on a first-come basis. Note, we expect these options to be very popular based on the “I’m interested” forms, and this will mean that some tents may have mixed units sleeping in them. We will confirm your request for pre-erected tent space within 10 days of receiving your booking form.

Rainbow and Brownie leaders using Basecamp

We recommend that leaders bring a separate, small tent(s) for leaders to use and pitch next to the basecamp tent(s) allocated to your unit. Please contact us if you are unable to do this, or have any concerns, and we will explore other options with you.

Guide and Ranger leaders using Basecamps

Please bring a separate tent for leaders to use. These can be pitched next to the basecamp tent(s) allocated to your unit, or in a separate adults area. Please contact us if you are unable to do this and we will explore other options with you.

Invoices must be paid, in full, by 30 June 2024

The final date for booking, or making amendments, is 31 May 2024. Invoices will then be sent out to unit leaders and full payment is required, by 30 June 2024.
