Building Confidence Through INTOPS: Leah’s Story

Name: Leah Miller

Unit: 1st Shepton Mallet Guides

Role: Ranger

I applied for INTOPS because I wanted to challenge myself and step outside of my comfort Zone. I’d heard amazing things from others who had taken part before and thought it would be a great way to build my confidence, develop new skills and meet new people. I love to travel and have been lucky enough to be selected to travel to India next year.

During the selection weekends I attended I really enjoyed meeting other guides and rangers from across the county. Everyone was so friendly, and the challenges and activities were great fun and pushed me to get stuck into everything. It was such a fun and memorable experience, and I have met people who have become good friends. I can’t wait to travel to India with them!

When I found out I had been selected to go to India, I was shocked but extremely excited. I feel privileged to have been chosen for this amazing opportunity and have really enjoyed getting to know the others that will be making the trip with me!

Fundraising has been challenging but also lots of fun! It is a lot of money to try and raise but the girl guiding community has been helpful and supportive. I’ve raised money through cake sales and writing lots of letters to local businesses and groups. I still have some way to go but I know I can achieve my goal!

If you are thinking about applying for the next round of INTOPS selection I would say GO FOR IT!!
