For Guides, Rangers and Young Leaders 12+

Join us for a fun day of activities and information about the Bath and West Show Messenger Service 2026 – open to girls aged 12+ on 28 May 2026

Girlguiding Somerset will again be providing a Messenger Service for the Royal Bath & West Show which runs for 3 days this year – Thursday 28 May 2026 – Saturday 30 May 2026,

This year we are running 2 selection days for anyone interested in taking part (28 February 2026 and 29 March 2026). The day will consist of some activities for Guides, Rangers and Young Leaders to take part in. This is followed by a briefing session for parents and guardians as well as the girls at the end. You will need to wear your uniform and bring a packed lunch for the day.

During the day we will also take a photo of each attendee ready for the event. If you do not get selected, or you choose not to take up your place, your photo will be deleted.

Bath and West Messenger Service – what you need to know

Who can apply?

Guides, Rangers and Young Leaders age 12 and over on Wednesday 27 May 2026.

When do I need to be on site?

We will need a small team to join us and camp on Tuesday 26 May, ready to work on Wednesday 27 May. Thursday is our busy day where we will need lots of volunteers, who need to come and camp with us on Wednesday 27 May, but can go home again after 6pm on Thursday 28 May. And then we will need a small team who stay with us and work on Friday 29 and Saturday 30 May.

What will I be doing?

Typical duties include:

  • Delivering messages /small parcels to people working on the showground.
  • Working with a judge, holding rosettes, delivering results to the Press Office.
  • Giving out leaflets to the public.
  • Helping at the Guide PR tent.
  • Helping in the Village School.
  • Helping at “The Great British Kitchen”, celebrity chef event

How long is each shift?

Shifts are usually 1 or 2 hours long, and you will be expected to work a maximum of 5 hours during the day. You will have a break between your shifts, and you can enjoy your free time with friends around the show.

Where do we camp?

We all camp together is a fenced off area in a corner of the showground. There are toilets and showers close by that we share with others, and we have a night toilet in our compound so you don’t need to leave our area at night.

Do I have to attend the selection day?

We hope to have lots of interest from across the County so we are offering 2 selection day events to “fast track” people onto the team.

Book your place at:

28 February – Doulting Village Hall
29 March – North Petherton

We will confirm places for those selected after the second day (early April)
