Peer education

Peer educators are young members of Girlguiding who are trained to deliver sessions on today’s hot topics for girls. It gives a special opportunity for girls to learn from their peers who can draw on their own experiences. The sessions are fun and interactive while introducing a range of important skills that will support young people throughout their lives.

Peer education topics

Peer education sessions are run during your normal meeting times for Brownies, Guides and Rangers. There are now three topics available for peer education:

  1. Think Resilient – Building mental wellbeing.
  2. Safe the World – Personal safety awareness.
  3. Breaking Free – Challenging gender stereotypes.

The topics have been developed alongside expert partners to make sure they are factual, engaging, and age appropriate. Each topic is worth UMA minutes and has it’s own badge available.

What happens in a peer education session?

Before the session, you’ll have a conversation with your assigned peer educators to gain essential information about your units needs and preferences. They will then use this information to create a session plan and send you a list of any needed resources.

On the day, the peer educator will come ready to lead the entire session. You’ll be responsible for supporting them and handling any safeguarding concerns that arise.
