Ivy’s INTOPS Experience

Tell us about you

I am a Guide in Frome but I am currently transitioning up to Rangers.

Why did you apply for INTOPS?

It sounded like a great opportunity and I didn’t have anything to lose by applying and going through the selection process.

What did you enjoy the most about the County selection weekend?

Everyone was really friendly. It was fun and it felt like a giant sleepover rather than being a selection process.

How did you feel when you found out you were selected for county or region or both, selections?

It felt great, but I was nervous before both of them because I didn’t know many people.

What trip have you been selected to complete, and what are you most looking forward to?

India. I am most looking forward to learning about the Indian culture and exploring a new country.

It’s still early days but what is the best advice you would give to someone contemplating applying for INTOPS?

Being nervous is ok but you will definitely make new friends and try new things.

What fundraising approach have you taken, and how is it going?

I am selling my crafts, art and cakes at local events. I have set up a GoFundMe page and I am applying for grants. It is actually going better than I expected. I am over half way to my target and still have five months of fundraising left.

What’s the best thing that you have taken away from this experience thus far?

Making new friends and building up my confidence.

Were you nervous before completing the selection weekend, and if so, how were these nerves overcome?

Yes, I was nervous but I think just chatting to people helped with this.

Has this experience helped you in other areas of your life; confidence, resilience, college applications, part time job etc?

Yes, it has helped me gain more confidence in my voluntary work with Rainbows, and has given me the confidence to sell my art to help with the fundraising.
